Music Program
This year Orange Center has been fortunate to have a music teacher on staff for all grade levels to have a musical experience appropriate for their grade level. The music program at Orange Center is divided into 3 components. General music is offered for students in the k-3rd grade, recorders for 4th-5th grade, and choir & guitar for 6th-8th grade elective.
K-3rd grade general music is centered around activities that include many opportunities for students to be actively engaged. Music activities include several opportunities that allow students to sing, play instruments, collaborate among peers, move to the beat of the music, actively listen to music, learn about reading music notes, and most importantly having fun while learning at the same time!
Our 4th& 5th grade students are learning how to play recorders! In this course, students will learn how to use proper recorder technique and learn about different music concepts. They have the opportunity to take the recorders home with parent consent and are required to bring their recorder to class every week.
Our 6th-8th grade students have the opportunity to join a choir/guitar combo class for their elective. In this class students will learn to sing songs in unison and work as a group. They will also learn how to play the guitar. They will learn the parts of the guitar, learn how tune a guitar, and play various songs. A guitar will be provided to each student and with parent consent, they will have the opportunity to take it home to practice. Students are required to practice everyday between 15-30 minutes each day and return their practice log on a weekly basis to earn credit.
Technology
With the transformation of the Room 16 computer lab into a collaborative work space for students and staff, Orange Center is making great strides on the implementation of one to one technology for all students. Students have daily access to Google apps for education through a district supported device. Students also have the opportunity to learn through Google Classroom, collaborate on curriculum based projects, utilize web based programs, and even have the opportunity to explore on virtual field trips right here on our campus.
STEM Activities
At Orange Center we offer additional integrated science opportunities to support the growth of the whole child. Currently the after school program students are engaging in science experiments lead by science instructors from Fresno County Office of Education. The upper grade students also have an opportunity to participate in the Jr. Health Institute sponsored by Washington Union High School. In addition to the above, the upper grade level elective classes are participating in LEGO robotics, coding, and 3D printing courses.
